Going Beyond Standard Wound Care

If you have a diagnosis of peripheral artery disease (PAD), venous insufficiency, diabetic arterial disease or a related condition, you live at a high risk of amputation. However, that doesn’t mean it is inevitable. Many of these diagnoses are caused or worsened by:

  • Plaque buildup: Over time, plaque tends to build up in the arteries, preventing blood and oxygen from reaching your extremities.
  • Blood clots: Blood clots can come on suddenly and completely obstruct blood flow to your hands, feet and other parts of the body.
  • Infected sores: An open wound is highly susceptible to bacterial infections, and the longer it takes to heal, the more at risk you become.

At Premier Endovascular in West Orange, we address these issues directly through noninvasive amputation prevention procedures and continued support as you make the wellness changes necessary to continue living a healthier, more fulfilling life.

Our Noninvasive Amputation Prevention Procedures

Whatever the cause of your high amputation risk, the team at Premier Endovascular is prepared to address it. Our facility includes an on-site, state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center where we can substantially reduce your risk in minutes. Our board-certified vascular surgeons will work with you to understand the cause of your condition and recommend minimally invasive amputation prevention procedures such as:

  • Atherectomy: Atherectomies address conditions like venous insufficiency and PAD at the source by removing the plaque buildup that causes your symptoms.
  • Stent placement: Stents are small tubes inserted into arteries that prevent them from closing or constricting too far. Placing a stent ensures blood and oxygen can continue to move through partially occluded areas.
  • Angioplasty: An alternative to stenting and atherectomies is angioplasty. This minimally invasive procedure involves inserting a small balloon into the affected artery and inflating it to restore blood flow.
  • Thrombolysis: If a blood clot contributes to your amputation risk, a thrombolysis procedure allows us to insert medication and tools into your veins using a catheter, breaking up the clot and restoring blood flow.
  • Revascularization: If vein repair or restoration is not possible, we may also perform vein replacement to redirect blood flow to your extremities, bypassing the issue entirely.

These methods may also be used in tandem with medications, wound care and other amputation-preventing tools to ensure immediate and long-term success by preventing plaque reformation and buildup.
